Cheylesmore Manor Ceremony Suite

The remnants of a medieval royal palace in Coventry city centre, the gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor is at the heart of the city on New Union Street. The magnificent timber building is a key piece of Coventry's rich and important heritage.

Previously the only unfortified royal palace outside of London, Cheylesmore Manor is now used as a stunning ceremony venue.

The manor is believed to have been built for the Earl of Arundel in 1237. By 1320 it had passed to Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II, along with the lavish Cheylesmore Park that surrounded it. Her grandson Edward, the Black Prince, took possession of it after her.

The building we know today is, in fact, only the gatehouse and parts of two cross wings to the original manor house.

The Manor House houses three beautiful ceremony rooms: The Manor Room, The Black Prince Room and the Library Room.

The Black Prince Room

The Black Prince Room

Cheylesmore Manor Ceremony Suite - The Black Prince Room

The Black Prince Room retains a wealth of original features including a magnificent vaulted beamed ceiling with an impressive stone fireplace and is furnished to a very high standard with medieval chandeliers. The room has been tastefully decorated with seat covers and accessories including large blossom trees to add an extra special touch to your ceremony. Once the ceremony is over you will exit from this room via a winding staircase down to a huge oak door into a large stone flagged courtyard, where a section of the city wall still remains. A small wooden bridge within the courtyard, with the Manor House as a backdrop, provides delightful opportunities for your important photographs and memories of your special day.

This is the largest of the Manor’s ceremony rooms accommodating 60 people and ceremonies are available every day. This room has been named “The Black Prince Room” in honour of its royal connections with Edward – The Black Prince. By choosing The Black Prince Room you will be offered a bespoke ceremony where you can choose your own vows, readings, music and more.

If your ceremony party exceeds the capacity of this room, why not consider St Mary’s Guildhall – rich in atmosphere and stunning medieval architecture, St. Mary's is widely considered among the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in the country.

The Manor Room

The Manor Room, with its beautiful beams to both walls and ceiling, is tastefully furnished to a high standard.

The room accommodates up to 20 people, including the couple and their witnesses; however, the entrance to the room is via a large step down, making it inaccessible to wheelchair users. The Library Room is on the ground floor of the Manor House making it accessible to wheelchair users and can be used in these circumstances.

The couple will be invited into the room ahead of the guests so that their legal preliminaries can be completed in private before the ceremony commences. If you would prefer a bespoke ceremony where you can choose your own vows, readings, music etc. or would like to be escorted into the room by someone of your choice please choose The Black Prince Room and see bespoke ceremonies.

Please note: The Manor Room is not available for naming, renewal of vows or commitment ceremonies.

The Library Room is a room with stunning beams to both walls and ceiling and is furnished to a high standard. The room accommodates up to 10 people, including the couple and their witnesses. The room is on the ground floor of the Manor House making it accessible to wheelchair users.

Unfortunately, there is no aisle in this room and therefore you will be unable to make an entrance. The couple will be invited into the room ahead of the guests so that their legal preliminaries can be completed in private before the ceremony commences.

If you would prefer a bespoke ceremony where you can choose your own vows, readings, music etc. or would like to be kept separate and be escorted into the room by someone of your choice please choose The Black Prince Room and see bespoke ceremonies.

Please note the Library Room is not available for naming, renewal of vows or commitment ceremonies.

We had our wedding on 28 December 2018. When we initially went to visit the venue we were introduced to Claire who was able to answer all of our questions. The Black Prince Room is a stunning room to get married in so we decided to book it. Claire was on hand the whole way through and arranged everything for us. We ordered the stationary from the venue and were not disappointed. In the lead up to our big day Claire was fantastic. We met with her ahead of the ceremony and she went through all the details of the day. On the day itself Claire and her team were fantastic at looking after us as well as our guests. The ceremony was faultless and I would highly recommend this brilliant venue to get married. Thank you so much to Claire and the team - you are amazing at your jobs

We had the most amazing wedding day in the most beautiful of venues in the Black Prince room. From booking the wedding, preliminary meeting with Claire, the registrar staff on the day each and every one of them put us at ease and were lovely. Thank you from the new Mr.Mrs O'Toole

When myself and Dean were looking for somewhere to hold our ceremony, we happened to be in Coventry City Centre. Dean wasn't too keen on a "registry office" ceremony because of what he envisioned when he thought of it. There is never harm in looking. As we arrived outside, he was blown away by the beautiful setting of Cheylesmore Manor (not being from Coventry). We went in and enquired as to having a quick peek at the Black Prince Room. Ceremony Coordinator, Claire, could not have been more helpful. With some spare time, Claire showed us around the venue and not only that but went through the whole ceremony process with us. Considering we felt quite cheeky just asking for a quick look, we were astounded by the level of service we received. Not only that but both myself and Dean fell in love with this historic and idyllic building. From start to finish, I could not have asked for a better wedding process. From the organisation, help on the day, calming nerves and going the extra mile to make our day the most special day of our lives, Cheylesmore Manor House delivered tenfold. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a venue with service, genuine warmth and care, get in contact with Claire to book an appointment. You will not be disappointed!
