Cheylesmore Manor Ceremony Suite

The remnants of a medieval royal palace in Coventry city centre, the gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor is at the heart of the city on New Union Street. The magnificent timber building is a key piece of Coventry's rich and important heritage.

Previously the only unfortified royal palace outside of London, Cheylesmore Manor is now used as a stunning ceremony venue.

The manor is believed to have been built for the Earl of Arundel in 1237. By 1320 it had passed to Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II, along with the lavish Cheylesmore Park that surrounded it. Her grandson Edward, the Black Prince, took possession of it after her.

The building we know today is, in fact, only the gatehouse and parts of two cross wings to the original manor house.

The Manor House houses three beautiful ceremony rooms: The Queen Isabella Room, The Black Prince Room and the Library Room.

The Black Prince Room

Black Prince Room

The Black Prince Room retains a wealth of original features including a magnificent vaulted beamed ceiling with an impressive stone fireplace and is furnished to a very high standard with medieval chandeliers. The room has been tastefully decorated to a high standard to add an extra special touch to your ceremony. Once the ceremony is over you will exit from this room via a winding staircase down to a huge oak door into a large stone flagged courtyard, where a section of the city wall still remains. A small wooden bridge within the courtyard, with the Manor House as a backdrop, provides delightful opportunities for your important photographs and memories of your special day.

This is the largest of the Manor’s ceremony rooms accommodating 50 people and ceremonies are available every day. This room has been named “The Black Prince Room” in honour of its royal connections with Edward – The Black Prince. By choosing The Black Prince Room you will be offered a bespoke ceremony where you can choose your own vows, readings, music and more.

If your ceremony party exceeds the capacity of this room, why not consider St Mary’s Guildhall – rich in atmosphere and stunning medieval architecture, St. Mary's is widely considered among the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in the country.

If you would prefer a bespoke ceremony where you can choose your own vows, readings, music  and audio visual enhancements etc. and would like to be escorted into the room by someone of your choice please see bespoke ceremonies.

The Queen Isabella Room

The Queen Isabella Room, with its beautiful beams to both walls and ceiling, is tastefully furnished to a high standard. The room accommodates up to 20 people, including the couple and their witnesses; with direct access into the room from the archway outside once the ceremony is over you will exit from the opposite side of the room passing through a second huge oak door into a large stone flagged courtyard, with the Manor House as a backdrop, providing delightful opportunities for your important photographs and memories of your special day. The couple will be invited into the room ahead of the guests so that their legal preliminaries can be completed in private before the ceremony commences.

If you would prefer a bespoke ceremony where you can choose your own vows, readings, music etc. and would like to be escorted into the room by someone of your choice please see bespoke ceremonies.

Please note: The Queen Isabella Room is not available for naming, renewal of vows or commitment ceremonies.
